  1. Think in terms of better website visitor engagement and satisfaction rather than focusing purely on the number of visitors you are getting.
  2. The customer is being encountered initially on mobile. Your mobile organic search process has to address this.
  3. Use content across your social channels to open up lines of two-way communication. Some experts even say that following the failed Google+ Authorship experiment, Google will place more value on social signals from Twitter and Facebook.
  4. And the clincher: SEO will no longer be an isolated department, but become fully integrated with other aspects of marketing.

Can "internet marketing" bypass search altogether? Probably not in the short term, but Peter Brooke lays out a solid case for thinking beyond "web" marketing - to look at the broader "internet marketing" picture.


Some points to note:

Mobile is a game changer. Phones and tablets account for 20-30% of website traffic, and it's only going to grow.


Traditional SEO - the quest for coming up first in search results - is no longer something you can rely on. Voice-activated search on mobile devices, for example, does away with the list of search results.


Make an app - Brooke makes an interesting recommendation: "Why not develop an app, pay for it to come up in the search results, entice the guest to download it and install it? Aim your marketing efforts to get the guest to go directly to your app or website to book and take Google out of the equation. This will and has to become the mantra for internet marketers going forward."
